US President Joe Biden will remain in Washington over the weekend to prevent a shutdown (a shutdown of the federal government due to a stop in funding), US presidential press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at a briefing.
According to her, if the government still remains without funding, “someone in the White House will continue to work.”
It was previously reported that the US Congress did not approve a temporary extension of funding for the federal government until October 31. The vote reportedly failed in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. At the same time, neither the senators nor the administration of US President Joe Biden liked the option of extending funding until October 31.
Now, in order to avoid the shutdown of the federal government due to a stop in funding, American congressmen must accept the project, and Biden must sign it before midnight from September 30 to October 1 (7:00 Moscow time). At this point, the US fiscal year will officially end.
Thus, the US authorities have only one working day left to agree on at least a temporary budget for the new fiscal year, which begins on October 1 in the country. Otherwise, a period will begin, called a “shutdown” in the United States, which actually means a suspension of government activities.
