Biden reminded Xi of China’s dependence on Western investment after his meeting with Putin

US President Joe Biden said that after the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, he called the Chinese leader. During the conversation, he reminded him of the country’s dependence on Western investment, urging “to be more careful”, transmits Reuters.

“I said this is not a threat. This is an observation,” Biden said.

Biden explained that he reminded Xi of his own words about China’s dependence on US and European investment, and also spoke about the withdrawal of 600 American companies from Russia after the start of the special operation. Xi, after listening to Biden, did not argue, the American president added.

Xi Jinping paid an official visit to Moscow from March 20 to 22. Putin called the talks constructive and successful. Following the talks, the leaders of Russia and China signed a number of statements. In particular, a document was adopted on a plan for the development of key areas of Russian-Chinese economic cooperation until 2030.

On July 7, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen meets with Chinese Premier Li Qiang statedthat Washington is committed to healthy competition with China, in which “the winner does not take all,” but both sides benefit. However, the minister criticized Beijing for its recent crackdown on US companies and new export controls on some key minerals.

At the end of June, Biden, commenting on the February story with a downed balloon, called the President of China a dictator. The Chinese Foreign Ministry then protested to Washington, calling such statements extremely absurd and irresponsible.
