Biden orders strikes on Iranian targets in Syria

The US armed forces (AF) launched strikes on two targets in eastern Syria, which, according to the Pentagon, are used by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and associated groups. This order was given by US President Joe Biden, reported in a Pentagon statement.

“These precision strikes in self-defense are in response to a series of ongoing and largely unsuccessful attacks on U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-backed groups that began on October 17,” it said.

The Pentagon said that as a result of the attacks on US bases, one US citizen who was hiding in a shelter died from a heart attack, and another 21 US military personnel were injured. As the US Department of Defense explained, Biden’s order makes it clear that the United States will not tolerate attacks on its military and “will defend itself, its personnel and its interests.”

It is emphasized that Washington does not seek conflict. The Pentagon added that attacks on US bases are unacceptable and called for an end to such actions. They clarified that the strikes carried out on October 26 against targets in Iraq and Syria are not related to the aggravation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Previously, Pentagon Press Secretary Patrick Ryder reported, that from October 17 to 26, US and Western coalition forces were attacked 16 times in Iraq and Syria by groups that the US believes are associated with Iran. In particular, with the help of kamikaze drones and missiles, American bases were attacked 12 times in Iraq and four times in Syria.
