Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is open to seeking a “just peace” with Russia. About it informed US President Joe Biden at a press conference following a meeting with the Ukrainian leader.
“President Zelensky, you have made it very clear that you are open to achieving…let me rephrase. You are open to achieving peace, a just peace,” he said. In response, Zelensky nodded in the affirmative.
Zelensky arrived in the United States on his first foreign visit since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine on the eve of December 21, in the evening. The topics of negotiations between the leaders of Ukraine and the United States were to be military operations in Ukraine, support for Kyiv by Washington and allies, as well as sanctions against Russia.
The day before, December 21, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informedthat Russia is always ready for peace talks. Before that, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov repeatedly spoke about Ukraine’s unwillingness to negotiate with Russia. At the end of November he declaredthat negotiations between the two countries are now impossible, since they are denied by the Ukrainian side. Then Peskov added that in order to resume dialogue, Ukraine must not only repeal the law refusing to negotiate with Moscow, but also show political will. According to him, Kyiv must show readiness to discuss Russia’s demands, “which are well known.”
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky 4 October signed decree refusing to negotiate with Moscow. This decision was previously made by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
