Berlin refused to support Kyiv’s idea to deprive Russia of its veto power at the UN

German Foreign Ministry Annalena Bärbock said that the country will not support Vladimir Zelensky’s initiative to deprive the Russian Federation of its veto power in the UN Security Council. This was reported by the ARD TV channel.
“Not everything that Ukraine offers to our government is supported by us,” the diplomat noted, adding that the UN Charter should be protected and think about ways to modernize the association.
At the same time, Bärbock advocated for Germany to join the permanent membership of the UN Security Council. She emphasized that the party wants this as part of modernization, which takes more into account the realities of the 21st century.
Earlier, the minister said that many Germans do not understand the need to support Ukraine. According to her, some Americans are wondering why the United States should support Ukraine, why is it so important for America? However, Bärbock concluded, the same question is being asked in Germany.
