Berlin “frantically looking” where to get Marder for Ukraine

The military-political leadership of Germany is trying to resolve the issue of the transfer of Marder combat vehicles to the Ukrainian military, but this promise is not so easy to fulfill, Spiegel notes.
According to the newspaper, immediately after the promise of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to transfer the “martens” to Ukraine, the German military department began to clarify where the country’s authorities plan to take additional vehicles for deliveries.
The Bundestag has so far limited itself to statements that “they plan to assemble infantry fighting vehicles from the stocks of the Bundeswehr.”
It is also reported that the weapons company Rheinmetall has about 60 Marder infantry fighting vehicles in warehouses, which can be repaired, but their modernization will take too long. Thus, the main part of the deliveries will not be able to be carried out until the end of March, as Berlin plans.
