They added that the new sanctions are another “attempt to openly interfere” in the internal affairs of the republic, and noted that such steps “destroy the path to return to an acceptable level” of relations between Belarus and the EU. The Foreign Ministry stressed that, despite the restrictions, the country will continue to pursue an independent foreign policy and defend its independence and sovereignty.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry also blamed the EU for creating the threat of a food crisis in the world. The department said that “under the guise of beautiful slogans about democracy and human rights,” the West is pursuing its “narrow geopolitical interests.”
August 3 EU expanded sanctions against Belarus for bypassing restrictions against Russia. The ban is introduced on the supply to the republic of products that contribute to the “military-technical improvement” of the country.
