Belarus proposed an amendment to the draft resolution of Western countries in the UN General Assembly calling for refraining from sending weapons to the conflict zone in Ukraine, transmits “RIA Novosti” with reference to its correspondent.
Belarus also proposes to remove the provision calling for Russia to immediately withdraw its troops from Ukraine.
As previously reported by the agency, an emergency special session of the General Assembly, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the start of the special operation, is scheduled for February 22. The text of the document that they want to adopt at the session echoes the “peace plan” of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
One version of the text of the resolution reads: “The General Assembly calls on Member States (UN) and international organizations to redouble their support for diplomatic efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine in accordance with the UN Charter.” The document mentions that the General Assembly reaffirms its commitment to the sovereignty of Ukraine. It also spelled out requirements for Russia to withdraw troops within the internationally recognized borders of the country.
Zelensky presented his peace plan in December 2022 at a meeting with US President Joe Biden. Among the 10 points of this initiative are the release of all prisoners of war, the restoration of the “territorial integrity” of Ukraine, etc.
