“As part of the meeting, the Brazilian side was given a note confirming the intentions of Belarus to become a full member of the BRICS,” the message says.
The parties also discussed the importance of supplies of Belarusian potash fertilizers and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
On June 20, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said that China supports the expansion of the BRICS at the expense of like-minded countries. Beijing, she said, considers the BRICS an important platform for cooperation between developing countries and emerging economies.
On June 14, Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgy Borisenko announced that Russia supported Egypt’s bid to join the BRICS. Prior to this, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro also stated that the country would like to become part of the union. Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboun, during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 15, said that the process of the country’s entry into the BRICS should be accelerated. On June 29, Ethiopia officially applied to join the BRICS.
