Belarusian border guards stopped monitoring activities on the border with Russia. About it informed official representative of the Belarusian State Border Committee Anton Bychkovsky to the RIA Novosti agency.
Monitoring of the situation began on May 5 in connection with preparations for the implementation of an agreement between countries on the mutual recognition of visas. Belarusian border guards organized checkpoints on the roads bordering with Russia and checked the passports of those entering the republic.
At the end of May Belarus reported on the stabilization of the situation on the border with Ukraine. Before that, the republic reinforced the border area with mortars and armored vehicles. It was reported about the clashes of the Belarusian border guards with provocations, which were “openly boorish in nature.”
In January of this year, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree on protecting the state border in 2023. According to the document, the main efforts are focused on the Ukrainian direction.
