The press service of the UK called Graham’s words “Russophobic”. They noted that on a widespread video recording of the meeting between the senator and the Ukrainian president, Graham announced “the financial participation of the United States in causing the death of Russian citizens.” The department promised to give his statements a proper legal assessment, without specifying under which article a criminal case would be initiated.

Senator Graham during a meeting with Zelensky on May 27 named death of Russians “the most successful waste” of the money of the American authorities. Russians are dying <...> We have never spent money so well,” said Graham.

After that, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commented on the senator’s statement and recalled the US “investment” in Nazi Germany, which led to the Holocaust. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called the US senator an “old fool”, saying that in “his beloved America, not only ordinary people are regularly killed, but dirty money is spent on killing senators.” Medvedev invited Graham to remember the “sad fate” of some American politicians – US Senator from 1965 to 1968 Robert Kennedy, Senator from 1932-1935. Huey Long, Senator from 2000 to 2015 Clement Carlos Pinckney and others.
