Azerbaijan demands a new corridor between Armenia and Karabakh
[ad_1]
Azerbaijan demands to organize movement from Armenia to Nagorno-Karabakh along an alternative route instead of the Lachin corridor, which is under the protection of Russian peacekeepers, the only supply route for the unrecognized republic. Baku refers to the trilateral agreement with Moscow and Yerevan dated November 9, 2020, which refers to the need to create a new route. Armenia counters that, according to the agreements, the route must first be agreed upon by all parties within three years. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on August 4 that there is no agreed and approved plan for the construction of a new route yet.
On August 3, in the area of the Lachin corridor, armed clashes between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) took place, ending with the occupation by Azerbaijani troops of a number of heights that allow fire control of the Lachin corridor highway.
