The average salary for the first half of 2023 in real terms increased by 6.9% compared to the same period in 2022. This was reported Vedomosti with reference to Rosstat data.

In nominal terms, the average monthly accrued wages in June amounted to 76,604 rubles, which is 14.1% more than in June 2022 and 5.2% more than in May 2023. Salary data for July has not yet been released. At the end of July, the average pension amounted to 19,476 rubles, which is 5.9% more than in July 2022.

The highest salaries were received by employees in the areas of oil and natural gas production (169,473 rubles), financing and insurance (156,581 rubles), and tobacco production (153,374 rubles). The smallest salaries are for postal and couriers employees (40,583 rubles), furniture manufacturers (42,777 rubles) and workers in the hotel business and catering (43,483 rubles).

According to Rosstat, the majority of Russians (26.7%) receive a salary of 27 thousand to 45 thousand rubles, 1.7% – up to 7 thousand rubles, 7.6% – more than 100 thousand rubles.

Experts interviewed by Vedomosti attribute the increase in wages to a shortage of personnel, which arose due to the relocation of some specialists abroad, the growth of certain industries due to the development of import substitution and demographic problems. Experts noted that wage growth occurs in certain industries – IT, construction and real estate, logistics, transport, retail, where companies are forced to “buy” employees.

By data Rosstat, in July, unemployment in Russia fell to a historic low since 1991 at 3%. The total number of unemployed in July amounted to 2.276 million people, which is 75 thousand less than in June.
