Australia imposed sanctions against a Russian citizen for “participation” in cyber attacks
As stated in a joint statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Australia Penny Wong, Richard Marles and Claire O’Neill, the country is introducing sanctions against Russian citizen Alexander Ermakov.
He will be subject to targeted financial sanctions and a travel ban. The Russian is accused of a cyber attack on Medibank in November 2022.
“The Australian Signals Directorate and the Australian Federal Police, through Operation Aquila… worked tirelessly to link Russian national and cybercriminal Alexander Ermakov to the hack of Medibank Private,” the statement said.
