Australia announced new sanctions against Russia

Australia is banning the supply of a number of goods to Russia, including nuclear reactors, spare parts, sound recording devices and drilling tools. About new sanctions against Moscow with reference to a letter from the Australian Ministry of Internal Affairs writes TASS.

The restrictions are being introduced in accordance with a new order from Australian Foreign Minister Penny Vaughn, the document says. In particular, the ban included the export to Russia of parts and spare parts for “any tools with or without a mechanical drive,” as well as for machines for “pressing, stamping, punching holes, threading, drilling, boring, broaching, milling, turning or tightening screws.”

In addition, it will not be possible to supply Moscow with stamps and molds for metal products, tools for drilling rocks and soil, nuclear reactors and parts for them, boilers, machines and mechanical equipment, the department lists.

Australia is also introducing a ban on the export of electrical machines and spare parts for them, sound recording devices, loudspeakers and devices, devices for recording television images and sound, and parts and components of such products, the Ministry of Internal Affairs added.

Australia joined US and European sanctions after the start of a special operation in Ukraine in February 2022. Sanctions are imposed on the country’s metallurgical, energy, financial and defense sectors, and also include restrictions on the export and import of products.

In July 2023 Canberra expanded the effect of sanctions on 45 Russian citizens and companies in the defense, technology and energy sectors. The Russian Embassy in Australia previously called restrictions against Moscow futile.
