The extraordinary congress of the Union of Theater Workers, where new leadership is to be elected, is ahead of schedule. An hour after the speeches of the current head of the Union of Labor Unions, Alexander Kalyagin, and several delegates, a speech began to nominate candidates for the post of chairman of the Union.
Alexander Kalyagin was the first to propose his candidate – Lenkom actor Alexander Lazarev, who, by the way, studied with Kalyagin at the Moscow Art Theater School. Also nominated as chairman, as one would expect, is the director of the Vakhtangov Theater, Kirill Krok. The representative of the Primorsky Territory proposed Valery Gergiev, who had left the hall 10 minutes earlier. Vladimir Mashkov was proposed by delegates from Kemerovo.
However, Lazarev, who took the stage, recused himself: “I received an offer to become the chief director, and I won’t be able to do both.”
The audience became agitated and from their seats began to ask: “Which theater?”
“I won’t say,” Lazarev retorted, “it will be announced one of these days.” Intrigue…
Kirill Krok also recused himself: “I asked to give my vote to Mashkov.” Krok also said that Valeriy Gergie told him over the phone that he was not ready to be chairman, but was ready to work in the secretariat of the STD.
Borisov, the candidate from Yakutia, also recused himself. Thus, there is only one candidate left on the list – Vladimir Mashkov.
