Alexander Kalyagin at the STD congress called “not to break anything”

At the congress of the Union of Theater Workers in Moscow, its head, Alexander Kalyagin, did not agree with the political assessment of the work of the Union and asked “not to break anything.”

“I don’t know what to report for,” began Alexander Kalyagin, “Because this is not a reporting and re-election congress.” This will be just a speech, so to speak, a few words from myself.

An extraordinary event – for the first time in the history of the Union, the congress is extraordinary. The budget did not even include the cost of this. The presidential administration helped us.

Kalyagin recalled the history of the Russian Theater Society, the “predecessor” of the STD, and the attention of the authorities to it: “A beautiful story. The Emperor helped.” The head of the STD spoke about material support for actors, their children, about the development of theater in the country, which the Union was and is involved in. Kalyagin emphasized (and it sounded weighty): “The Union has been criticized more than once. But I do not agree with the political assessment of the Union’s work. He never opposed the North Military District, supported, and will continue to support the line of the Russian President.

I hand over the Union to the next chairman in a good, well-functioning state. I’m proud of him. But I really ask the new secretariat not to break anything. 150 years of its existence have confirmed this simple and clear thesis.

Kalyagin’s speech lasted exactly three minutes.

The extraordinary congress was convened at the proposal of Kalyagin, who has headed the STD since 1996, and should elect the leadership of the organization.
