At least 12 journalists were killed in the war between Israel and Hamas

At least 12 journalists were killed during the hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas, and two were reported missing and eight were wounded. About it reports Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

“As of October 14, in the first eight days of fighting, at least 12 journalists were killed, two were missing and eight were injured. During the same period, the conflict claimed the lives of more than 3,200 people on both sides and injured many thousands,” CPJ reported.

Journalists in Gaza are especially at risk, the organization stressed. They are trying to cover the conflict “in the face of Israeli ground attacks, devastating Israeli airstrikes, communications disruptions and widespread power outages.” According to the committee, since October 7, 10 Palestinian media workers have been confirmed dead, one Israeli journalist has also been killed and another is missing.

In addition, on October 13, a journalist from Beirut was killed during shelling in southern Lebanon. CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator, Sherif Mansour, stressed that journalists “should not be persecuted by the warring parties” and called on the parties to “take measures to ensure their safety to stop these deadly and heavy losses.”

The organization published the names of journalists killed, wounded, detained and missing during the hostilities. The list, which is compiled based on CPJ sources and media reports, is regularly updated, the committee added.

On October 7, Hamas militants invaded Israel, accusing its authorities of oppression and violations of the rights of Palestinians. The militants attacked the border units of the Israeli army and entered populated areas, taking military and civilian hostages. The Israel Defense Forces responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, initiating large-scale bombing of the Gaza Strip. The total number of deaths during the clashes exceeded 3,000 people.
