At a meeting with Putin, the Moscow-Petersburg high-speed railway scheme was agreed upon – Kommersant

The basic scheme of the high-speed railway (HSR) between Moscow and St. Petersburg was agreed upon at a meeting with President Vladimir Putin. This was announced by his press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“There will be a high-speed train. The basic scheme has been agreed upon. The details of the future document will be quickly finalized,” a Kremlin representative told TASS.

Yesterday, February 15, Mr. Putin held a meeting on the development of high-speed lines. The head of the Ministry of Transport, Vitaly Savelyev, told him that the financial model of the highway between Moscow and St. Petersburg includes 580 billion rubles. funds from the National Welfare Fund (NWF), as well as Gazfond bonds worth 290 billion rubles. According to the minister, the project provides for two construction sections. The first is from St. Petersburg to Zelenograd, its cost is estimated at 1 trillion 755 billion rubles. The second is the construction of exits from Moscow, for which they plan to allocate 221.5 billion rubles. Mr. Savelyev promised that trains would run along the main line every 10–15 minutes.

In December 2023, the Ministry of Transport saidthat funding for the Moscow-St. Petersburg high-speed railway has not yet been approved. Initially, the department estimated that the high-speed railway would require 468 billion rubles. from the National Welfare Fund. General Director of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov expects that the project will be built by 2030. RBC reportedthat the conditional price of a trip on the HSR will be 5,008 rubles.
