US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Fee said the US is not opposed to diversifying African partnerships. However, she expressed concerns about their cooperation with Russia, arguing that such a choice could create significant difficulties.
Fee also noted that the decision of the Malian authorities to “drive out the French” and bring in the Wagner group led to an increase in civilian casualties and security problems. She emphasized that such a model does not correspond to the preferences of the country’s managers.
“This is not a model that I or others running the country would like to follow,” Fee said.
