Armenian Defense Ministry announced the use of artillery and mortars by Azerbaijan

On the morning of September 14, the Azerbaijani military used artillery, mortars and other weapons in the direction of the Armenian settlements of Jermuk and Verin Shorzha. About it reported Ministry of Defense of Armenia.
“During the night the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border continued to be tense. In particular, the enemy used drones in the direction of Jermuk,” the military department said in a statement.
It is specified that from 08:00 local time (07:00 Moscow time) the Azerbaijani side is shelling Jermuk and Verin Shorzha from artillery, mortars and large-caliber small arms. The Armenian Defense Ministry noted that they are taking retaliatory actions and continue to “perform the assigned combat missions.”
On the night of September 13, according to the Armenian ministry, Azerbaijani troops fired on the border settlements in the south-east of the country – Sotk, Goris and Jermuk. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced 49 dead as a result of shelling. He clarified that this figure is not final.
At the same time, the Azerbaijani side blamed Armenia for the escalation of the situation. Later the Ministry of Defense of the Republic reported about the death of 50 Azerbaijani servicemen during the fighting on the border with Armenia.
After the night shelling, the Armenian government turned to Russia, the CSTO and the UN Security Council. In addition, Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan with his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu. As a result, Baku and Yerevan, through the mediation of Moscow, were able to agree on a ceasefire from 09:00 Moscow time.
On the same day, an emergency meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council was held due to the aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. During the meeting, the Belarusian side suggested send CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas to the region. Minsk also called for the creation of a working group from among the staff of the Secretariat and the CSTO Joint Headquarters to analyze the situation and develop proposals for resolving it.
