The Armenian authorities are discussing the possibility of stopping broadcasting in the republic of Russian television channels, the content of which “threatens the security of the state,” stated in an interview with the Factor TV channel, Lusine Badalyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party.

The deputy was asked to explain why the government does not turn off Russian television channels in the republic. According to her, this is being discussed, but turning off broadcasting will not be a big salvation, since there is the Internet.

“I think some steps will be taken, because when something threatens the security of the state, then these steps must be taken, regardless of whether they will be beneficial or not,” – said she (quote from News.am)

The issue of stopping the work of Russian channels has been discussed “for a long time,” including at plenary sessions of the National Assembly, and if the corresponding decision is made, the relevant departments will make statements, Badalyan added.

In Armenia, the Russian Channel One, Russia-Culture and RTR-Planeta, which is part of the VGTRK, are rebroadcast through a public multiplex; the interstate TV channel Mir, headquartered in Moscow, also operates.
