Armenia has sent Russia proposals to resolve the situation related to the Rome Statute and the International Criminal Court, TASS reports.
Ambassador at Large of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Edmon Marukyan, in a conversation with TASS, said that Yerevan sent Moscow its proposals on the situation with the preparation of the republic’s ratification of the Rome Statute on the establishment of the International Criminal Court.
The report states that discussions on these proposals are currently underway.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the possible decision to ratify the Rome Statute, signed by Yerevan in 1998, is not related to bilateral relations with Russia. According to Pashinyan, ratification started in December 2022, and “the process coincided with the context of relations between Russia and the ICC” – the International Criminal Court, which issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova.
Pashinyan also said that the country’s authorities are determined to fully ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. “This is not directed against Russia, but is related to issues of our security,” Pashinyan said. Previously, he stated that Armenia plans to bring Azerbaijan to justice through the ICC for the September 2022 events and other episodes.
