The Armenian government has approved a decree giving internally displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh refugee status and providing them with temporary protection.
According to the text of the resolution, the state provides temporary protection to persons whose last registered address was in Nagorno-Karabakh, or to those who actually lived there and were registered with the migration authorities of Armenia after September 19.
The document emphasizes that on the territory of Armenia there are about one hundred thousand ethnic Armenians who previously lived in Nagorno-Karabakh. The government is taking measures to protect the rights and legitimate interests of displaced persons, including developing the form and procedure for issuing documents confirming the status of persons receiving temporary protection.
Earlier, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan announced the opportunity for refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh to obtain citizenship of the republic.
