The Ukrainian military shelled the Petrovsky district of Donetsk from artillery at exactly 12:00 after the start of the silence regime announced by Russia, the DPR representative office at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC) reports.
“12:00 — n.p. Kurakhovo – Donetsk (Petrovsky district): 6 shells of 155 mm caliber were fired, – says in a message in the Telegram channel.
On the eve of January 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed introduce a ceasefire for 36 hours from noon on January 6 to the end of January 7 in the zone of the special operation in Ukraine. The head of state noted that a large number of Orthodox Christians live in the areas of hostilities, so he called on the Ukrainian side to also declare a ceasefire.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the proposal of his Russian counterpart, saying that Moscow, under the pretext of silence in Ukraine, is trying to hide the preparation of a “new wave of aggression.” Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, called this step hypocritical on his Twitter, saying that a “temporary truce” could only begin after the withdrawal of troops.
Acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin, in turn, declaredthat the Russian Armed Forces will not ignore the provocations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the period of the ceasefire.
