Former non-staff adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovich on Saturday called the ban on the Russian language in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy a violation of the country’s constitution and EU laws.
In his telegram channel, Arestovich called himself a supporter of the academic freedom of educational institutions, but drew attention to the fact that the ban on the Russian language is contrary to Article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine and normative acts of international law.
The day before, the administration of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy forbade speaking Russian within its walls. The ban was included in the internal regulations approved at the 40th session of the Academic Conference of the University. The norm applies not only to teaching, but also to interpersonal communication at the university.
