The US authorities are making cynical and absurd statements in an attempt to “shield” Kyiv. Such a statement did Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov.

“The statements of Washington officials are striking in their cynicism and absurdity. <...> Today, the United States is shielding the Kyiv criminals,” the diplomat said.

Russia hoped that Washington “had the strength and dignity” to condemn the attack, but the US authorities “did not find it possible to admit the obvious,” Antonov said. According to him, the statement by US officials about the right of Kyiv “to choose how to defend itself” is an example of double standards. Thus, the United States demonstrates a policy of encouraging Kyiv’s attacks on Russia, the ambassador added.

Antonov said that the incident with drones over the Kremlin indicates a lack of desire on the part of the opponents “to seek peace, to save thousands of lives of ordinary Ukrainians.” He noted that Russia will respond to a “terrorist attack” when it “deems it necessary” and will take it into account when implementing the goals and objectives of the special operation.

On the night of May 3, two drones tried to attack the Kremlin, reported in the press service of the President of Russia. As a result of the incident, Russian President Vladimir Putin was not injured, he continues to work as usual in Novo-Ogaryovo, said press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov.

The Kremlin called the incident “a planned terrorist act, an attempt on the life of the President of Russia.” They stressed that Moscow reserves the right to take retaliatory measures “where and when it sees fit.” On the fact of the incident of the RF IC aroused a criminal case on a terrorist act (Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

In Kyiv, involvement in the attack is denied. Commenting on the incident, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken declaredthat Washington leaves it up to Kyiv to defend its territory in a conflict. At the White House emphasizedthat do not encourage Ukraine to strike at the territory of Russia.
