Annual inflation in Russia accelerated to 7.79% in a week – Kommersant

Inflation in Russia for the period from April 2 to April 8, 2024 accelerated compared to the previous week and amounted to 0.16%. As of April 8, annual inflation in the Russian Federation accelerated to 7.79%, if calculated from average daily data for the entire April 2023. This follows from review Ministry of Economic Development.
According to the ministry, from April 2 to April 8, in the food products segment, the rate of price growth was 0.22%. The rate of growth in prices for fruits has slowed down, potatoes have fallen in price, and the prices for cucumbers, cabbage and onions have continued to fall. Prices for other food products increased by 0.22%. Prices for lamb (1.1%) and granulated sugar (0.8%) increased. In the segment of non-food products, the price growth rate was 0.12%. For gasoline and diesel for the period from April 2 to April 8, prices changed by 0.16% and 0.18%, respectively.
The head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, spoke in the State Duma with an annual report on the activities of the regulator. Among other things, she suggested six measures to combat poverty, including reducing inflation. The poverty level in the Russian Federation at the end of 2023, according to Rosstat, has reached a historical minimum, dropping from 9.8% to 9.3% of the country’s population.
