Annual inflation in Russia accelerated to 7.58% in a week – Kommersant

The Ministry of Economy reported that annual inflation in Russia from February 20 to 26, 2024 accelerated to 7.58% from 7.57% a week earlier. From the department’s report (.pdf) it follows that over the week consumer prices increased by 0.13%.
In the segment food products the price increase was 0.19%. The growth rate of the cost of fruits and vegetables slowed to 0.61%. For other food products, price increases remained at 0.15%, the same as last week. In particular, eggs, chicken meat and pork fell in price, and the rise in prices for bakery and dairy products slowed down.
In the segment non-food products Over the past week, the Ministry of Economy recorded a price increase of 0.01%. Prices for gasoline increased by 0.01%, for diesel fuel – by 0.02%. Passenger cars fell in price by 0.01%.
At the rate Rosstat, from February 20 to 26, annual inflation in Russia accelerated to 7.57% from 7.42% a week earlier. Prices for white cabbage increased by 2.4%, tomatoes – by 2.2%, beets – 1.7%, carrots – 1.6%. Price reductions were recorded for black tea (-0.4%), eggs and rice (-0.2%), as well as chicken meat (-0.1%).
According to the forecast of the Bank of Russia, taking into account the current monetary policy, annual inflation in 2024 will drop to 4–4.5% and will be close to 4% in the future. In December 2023, the Russian Ministry of Finance predicted that inflation in 2024 would be 4.5%. At the end of last year, inflation was 7.59%.
