Annual inflation in Russia accelerated to 5.74% in a week – Kommersant

“In the week from September 19 to 25, 2023, inflation was 0.28% (an increase of 0.13% the week before). Year-on-year price growth amounted to 5.74% year-on-year,” the review says.
Food prices, according to the Ministry of Economy, increased by 0.41% on average over the week. The growth in prices for vegetables and fruits slowed from 0.66% last week to 0.55% this week. In the rest of the food segment, goods rose in price by 0.4%.
In the non-food goods segment, inflation amounted to 0.24% for the week. Prices continued to rise for building materials, shoes and clothing, household chemicals and medical goods. Prices for household appliances, as stated in the report, began to decline at a faster rate – by 0.19%.
Prices in the services sector increased by 0.19% over the week after declining by 0.16% last week. The Ministry of Economy associates the acceleration of inflation with rising prices for air tickets, hairdressing services, car washing and TV repairs.
On September 15, the Central Bank raised the key rate to 13%. The Central Bank, according to experts, took this step because of accelerated inflation: at the meeting, the head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, announced an increase in the inflation forecast for 2023 to 6–7%.
