Anna Guseva: “It would be great to make a crazy opera of a new generation”

The central event of the Diaghilev Festival, which ended in early July in Perm, the largest musical theater festival outside the two Russian capitals under the artistic direction of Teodor Currentzis, was the premiere in one evening of two dance and vocal performances based on the works of Igor Stravinsky. Having a career as an actress and artist in the background, Guseva has resolutely moved into the ranks of the most unusual modern directors in Russia, fearlessly breaking genre and stylistic barriers. Carl Orff’s oratorio De temporum fine comoedia, also presented a year ago at the Diaghilev Festival, was Guseva’s first major directorial work. And brought her five nominations and a special jury award of the musical theater “Golden Mask”.
