In the coming days, technical delegations from the defense departments of Turkey, the Russian Federation and Syria will hold meetings. Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that the consultations will be a continuation of the trilateral format of talks on normalization between Ankara and Damascus.
Negotiations between the defense ministers of Turkey and Syria for the first time in 11 previous years took place in December in Moscow. In 2011, a civil war broke out in Syria. Turkey has taken the side of opponents of the Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad. In recent weeks, both sides have been talking about the possibility of a gradual normalization of bilateral relations.
“We are doing everything possible to achieve results,” Defense Minister Akar was quoted by his press office ahead of the meeting of the delegations on Turkish soil.
