An unknown sniper fired at a Russian-Azerbaijani patrol in Karabakh

An unknown person fired at a Russian-Azerbaijani patrol with a sniper weapon in Nagorno-Karabakh. A case of ceasefire violation was recorded in the city of Stenpanakert, reported press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

“An unknown person fired at a joint Russian-Azerbaijani patrol with sniper weapons. There were no casualties. The command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, together with representatives of the Azerbaijani side and Karabakh, is conducting an investigation,” the department clarified.

The Ministry of Defense also noted that, under the control of Russian peacekeepers, by October 2, 76 armored vehicles, 92 military vehicles, 111 air defense systems, more than 6,300 small arms and anti-tank weapons, about 14.4 million ammunition, as well as 95 field artillery pieces, MLRS were handed over in Nagorno-Karabakh by October 2 and mortars.

The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on September 19 – on this day Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorism measures” on the territory of the unrecognized republic. The next day, the Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire, then negotiations took place between the delegation of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and representatives of the Azerbaijani authorities. As a result of the meeting, the Karabakh military began to surrender their weapons under the control of Russian peacekeepers.

On September 28, the president of the unrecognized republic, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree on the termination of its existence from January 1, 2024 and the dissolution of all government institutions and organizations.
