The Finnish Foreign Ministry is investigating an incident involving a call from Russian pranksters Vovan (Vladimir Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Alexey Stolyarov) to the head of the department, Elina Valtonen. This is stated in the message of the Finnish Foreign Ministry in X.
“The Foreign Ministry is investigating a fraud in which Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen made a video call with a person who was not the same person in the video,” the ministry said.
The Finnish Foreign Ministry will strengthen its procedures to avoid such situations in the future, it added. The department noted that “the video call and its organization were routine and did not arouse suspicion.” During the conversation, Valtonen expressed the public position of Finland and outlined her views on current issues. It is emphasized that no confidential or classified information was discussed during the call.
October 11 Vovan and Lexus published in his Telegram channel pranked the head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry. They called the minister “on behalf of one of the African politicians” and discussed with her the situation in Ukraine, Finland’s entry into NATO, etc. In particular, Valtonen told how Finland “constantly defended itself against the Soviet Union” and is now spending money on defense against Russia . The minister also rejected the possibility of supplying Ukraine with fighter jets, since Finland “has obligations to NATO” and the country “must protect its own border.”
