An initiative group of voters supported Vladimir Putin’s self-nomination in the upcoming presidential elections, a Kommersant correspondent reported. The head of the executive committee of the Popular Front, Mikhail Kuznetsov, said during the meeting that the decision was made unanimously.
The minutes of the meeting will be sent to the Central Election Commission for registration of the initiative group. This is necessary to begin collecting signatures in support of the candidate’s nomination. The initiative group needs to collect 300 thousand votes.
The meeting was addressed by First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly Andrei Turchak, head of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters Valery Gergiev, member of the Human Rights Council Yulia Belekhova, chairman of the party “A Just Russia – For Truth” Sergei Mironov, as well as member of the central headquarters of the Popular Front Elena Shmeleva and others.
The initiative group will include People’s Artist and Moscow City Duma Deputy Nadezhda Babkina, pop singers Polina Gagarina and Larisa Dolina, singer Stas Mikhailov, director Nikita Mikhalkov, Tatyana Navka, Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Mashkov, singer Shaman (Yaroslav Dronov) and boxer Jeff Monson. Such candidates were previously named by Kommersant sources.
According to Sergei Kogogin, a member of the central headquarters of the Popular Front, there were 700 people at the meeting with a quorum of 500. The meeting took place in the Zaryadye concert hall.
On December 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to participate in the upcoming presidential elections. The head of state announced this at a meeting with Heroes of Russia in the Kremlin. On December 7, the Federation Council adopted a resolution calling elections. The CEC decided to hold elections within three days – from March 15 to 17, 2024.
