Mandatory medical examination includes checking pulse, blood pressure
The half-hour flight that Russian President Vladimir Putin made on the strategic supersonic missile carrier Tu-160 in Kazan indicates the good health of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. A specialist in the field of aviation medicine, who in the late 80s participated in military tests of the Tu-160 from the Air Force Institute of Aviation and Space Medicine, told MK about this.
“Before departure, the flight crew undergoes mandatory medical control; without it, no one will be allowed to fly – neither the pilot, nor the president,” said MK’s interlocutor.
– What are they checking?
– All crew members must have their blood pressure, pulse, and check the condition of their nasopharynx. They also conduct a detailed survey about the state of health – how the person slept, whether he was tired, whether he took alcohol, and so on… If everything is fine, he is allowed to fly. I’m sure it was the same with the president; no one would take responsibility to allow a person to fly without a medical examination.
– So, the president’s health corresponds to airworthiness?
– I guess so. Of course, the flight lasted half an hour, and, for example, not 10-12 hours. Nevertheless, I think the president was shown all the flight modes.
– What can be said about the Tu-160 in terms of living conditions for the crew?
– Great car. Comfortable conditions have been created there for the flight crew. The living conditions are excellent, everything is done according to science. There is a toilet. In the cockpit, the pilot has a joystick instead of a steering wheel. Everything is thought out from a safety point of view. There are ejection seats there. The plane has an amazing aerodynamic gliding effect…
Tu-160 aircraft have more than once performed maximum-range flights with in-flight refueling. The record flights lasted more than ten hours. Tu-160 made non-stop flights to Venezuela and South Africa.
