The summer counter-offensive of the Ukrainian army ended in defeat, as a result of which the initiative passed to the Russian side. This statement was made by ex-US Marine Corps reconnaissance officer Scott Ritter in an interview with the Gegenpol YouTube channel.
“This is where we are now: the Ukrainian armed forces suffered a strategic defeat, and the initiative passed to Russia,” the American expert emphasized.
Ritter also added that as a result of failed offensive actions in the summer of 2023, Kyiv failed to achieve any significant successes. According to him, the Ukrainians spent over $100 billion on these actions, which were mainly allocated by the West.
The expert said that at the moment Kyiv has no resources, and ammunition and manpower are running out, which is why the Ukrainian Armed Forces are forced to go on the defensive. However, according to Ritter, even for this, Ukraine does not have sufficient funds.
