An amendment was made to the Duma on contract service, regardless of being in the reserve

The State Duma Defense Committee proposed to allow men to enter into a contract for military service during the period of mobilization, wartime or martial law, regardless of their stay in the reserve. This will allow residents of new regions to become contract soldiers.

The initiative is contained in the table of amendments to billwhich will allow citizens with a criminal record, as well as those recognized as limited fit for military service, to enter military service under a contract.

The provision on concluding a contract for military service, regardless of being in the reserve, is proposed to be included in Art. 4 of this bill, which establishes the age limit for military service for the period of mobilization, wartime or position.

“This will allow citizens residing in the territories of the new constituent entities of the Russian Federation and not enrolled in the reserve of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to enter the military service under a contract,” the note to the amendment says.

The amendment was introduced by the authors of the draft, Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the Duma Defense Committee, and Andrei Krasov, his first deputy.

Earlier, on June 14, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a bill on the possibility of contract service for citizens with a criminal record. The authors of the bill noted that now in Russia it is allowed to call for service as part of the mobilization of persons with a criminal record, with the exception of those who have committed crimes against sexual integrity, convicted of terrorism, high treason, espionage and a number of other grave and especially grave crimes. A similar approach is proposed to be applied to citizens who have a criminal record and wish to enter military service under a contract, during mobilization, martial law or wartime.

Also, according to the bill, persons who are serving sentences and who have entered into a contract for military service will be released from punishment, and their criminal record will be extinguished. In addition, it is allowed to enter the military service fit for military service with minor restrictions or limited fit.
