An air of Verdi sung in an airplane takes travelers to seventh heaven

A tasty surprise awaited passengers of the airline Lift on the flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg in mid-July. Among the travellers, five singers from the Cape Town Opera improvised an interpretation of the famous Brindisi of La Traviata of Verdi, as reported Classic Radio.
Partner of the South African institution, the airline has concluded an agreement to transport the troops of musicians and singers during a tour throughout the country this summer. In a totally impromptu way, the artists present on the flight in mid-July sang, supported by the staff, the playful tune of Brindisi from the first act of Verdi’s opera. An improvisation hailed by the warm cheers of the traveling public.
La Traviata, opera in three acts created in 1853, is inspired by La Dame aux Camélias, by Alexandre Dumas fils, a novel in which the writer recounts his passion for Marie Duplessis. Verdi’s lyrical tragedy recounts the fall of the courtesan Violetta Valéry and her lover Alfredo Germont in the superficial Paris of the 1850s. A hymn to love and joie de vivre, the aria Brindisi Where Libiamo ne’lieti calici (Let’s drink from these happy cups, in Italian), takes place in the first act, during a party organized by Violetta. Moment when the two future lovers evoke, in an outpouring of joy, the birth of their love. A lyrical flight at the right time for a plane trip.
