Amnesty International apologizes for report on UAF violations of laws of war

The international human rights organization Amnesty International has apologized for the “caused pain and anger” report on violations of the laws of war by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reports Reuters. However, the organization has not retracted its findings, the agency notes.
“Amnesty International deeply regrets the stress and anger caused by our press release about Ukraine’s military tactics. The priority for Amnesty International in this and every other conflict is that civilians are protected. Of course, the latest release on the topic was subordinated to this sole purpose, ”the agency quotes the message of the organization.
The organization noted that “they fully adhere to their conclusions, although they regret the pain caused.”
The report of the organization refers to cases of military use of residential buildings in 19 settlements, as well as the use of schools and hospitals for military purposes. This does not mean that Amnesty International holds Ukrainian forces responsible for violations committed by Russian forces, or that the Ukrainian military is not taking adequate precautions in other parts of the country.

On April 8, the Ministry of Justice excluded the Russian divisions of Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and 13 other foreign non-governmental organizations from the register of branches and representative offices. The ministry explained the decision by violations of the current legislation by foreign organizations. Due to exclusion from the list, organizations will be deregistered by the tax authorities, so they will not be able to pay salaries to employees. Both HRW and Amnesty International have said they intend to continue working in Russia.
