American scientist explained Putin’s statements about tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus

“What did you expect when you were trying to wake up a hibernating bear?”

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on March 25 that Russia would deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, build storage bases for nuclear warheads on its territory by July 1, and begin training pilots. Many foreigners, surprisingly, took the statement of the Russian president adequately and agreed with the justice of this decision.

Hans Christensen, director of the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) Nuclear Information Project, wrote on social media: “If Putin’s statement is indeed true, it will be a Russian version of American nuclear weapons stationed in Europe. But it is not entirely clear: Russia will send only warheads, or the construction of full-fledged silo launchers will begin in Belarus.

Some foreigners saw in the construction of a nuclear storage facility in Belarus a response to the British promise to transfer shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine. A user with the nickname “CrypticMystic3” condemned the hypocrisy of some commentators: “You criticize Russia’s decision to send nuclear weapons to the territory of Belarus, although you had no questions about arming Ukrainians with British depleted uranium shells. Why are you all freaking out now?”

Nigerian Toby Ayodele observed: “America has deployed an incredible number of nuclear warheads in many European countries. What is the problem if Russia wants to do the same in Belarus?”

A user with the nickname “Xplynx” noted: “I don’t take sides, but everyone knows very well that the United States has deployed more than a hundred nuclear weapons throughout Europe: in Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and Turkey.”

Angela Miller wrote: “What did you expect, constantly trying to wake up a hibernating bear?”

A Canadian with the nickname “Pepper44” replied: “Well, no, wake up the bear! What bad can happen, right? But seriously, do not meddle in the affairs of Ukraine, Putin has been warning you for two decades!”
