General Hodges: West wants to seize Crimea to control shipping
Former commander of NATO forces in Europe, Ben Hodges, said that Ukraine and the West need Crimea to control shipping in the Black Sea.
In an interview with Newsweek, he noted that thanks to the peninsula, “Russia dominates the entire northern coast of the Black Sea.” That is why Washington and Brussels, he said, need to occupy the region by arming the Ukrainian army.
“If you look at the Black Sea, it becomes painfully obvious that Russia can block any ships entering and leaving the ports of Ukraine,” Hodges said, referring to readers.
The general considers the implementation of the plans to be important both for the economy of Ukraine and for the European Union as a whole.
The expressed intentions to seize Crimea and Donbass in the Russian Federation have been called suicidal more than once, emphasizing that it is impossible to seize part of the territory from a powerful nuclear power.
