The head of the Moldovan mission to NATO and the country’s ambassador to Belgium, Viorel Cibotaru, said that over the past year, the number of projects of the republic with the alliance within the framework of the Defense Strengthening Program has tripled.
“NATO has asked Moldova to submit its requests for assistance… After carefully studying this list, a political decision was made from NATO – to provide individual support, that is, extended support to Moldova. In May 2022, we had six projects on paper and three real projects, and now we have 18 projects with NATO,” Cibotaru said in an interview with radio station “Moldova”.
According to the ambassador, Moldova asked for assistance in organizing the armed forces, as well as in training law enforcement agencies, such as carabinieri. The Ambassador noted that all projects should be implemented within a period of three to six months.
Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, in an interview with Politico, expressed her opinion on the need to abandon neutrality in favor of joining a large military alliance.
