Russian Ambassador: Poles are de facto fighting in Ukraine, but de jure the issue of sending troops is not raised
The Russian ambassador to Poland, Sergei Andreev, answered negatively in an interview with Izvestia when asked if the topic of sending Polish military personnel to the NVO zone is being discussed.
As the diplomat emphasized, such a topic is not discussed in Polish public political discussions.
At the same time, Andreev nevertheless noted that de facto a large number of Poles are fighting together with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and without official directions.
“It is well known that many Polish mercenaries are fighting on the side of the Kiev regime (here they are called volunteers), recruitment is openly carried out in the so-called Polish Volunteer Corps, … its participation in the battles in the Zaporizhia direction has been announced – in the Orekhov region and near Artemovsk, – the ambassador said.
At the same time, the interlocutor of Izvestia also made it clear that the absence of an official decision on sending reinforcements to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is also a relative thing: recruitment to the Legion is widespread and free in Poland, although such activity is punishable by imprisonment for five years under the local Criminal Code.
