Ambassador Berdyev: US prevents Russia from fully participating in APEC

Ambassador-at-Large, senior official in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) from the Russian Federation Marat Berdyev said that the United States creates serious obstacles for Russia’s full participation in the work of APEC.
According to Berdyev, the current situation creates serious obstacles for the Russian side to fully participate in the activities of APEC under the American chairmanship, which cannot but affect the effectiveness and credibility of the US watch.
The diplomat pointed out that Washington continues to “lose face” as a responsible participant in international communication and a negotiable player. As the ambassador noted, Russia had no great illusions about Washington’s ability to keep its word, but believed that the chairmanship of APEC would have a sobering disciplinary effect, deterring the US authorities from direct violations of the APEC rules.
Berdyev added that Russia agreed to the US chairmanship of APEC, paying special attention to Washington’s reaffirmation of its readiness to ensure non-discriminatory access for all delegations to events without double standards and arbitrariness.
