In Europe, the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline was opened (the line runs between Poland and Norway through Denmark), which could become an alternative to the Russian Nord Stream. The solemn ceremony took place in Goleniow in the northwestern part of Poland. The total capacity of the gas pipeline is 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually. As Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said during the event, the Baltic Pipe was built in opposition to the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, the Polish government expects to replace gas from Russia with supplies through it.
From a recently published statement by PGNiG, it follows that the Polish oil and gas concern will supply about 6.5 billion cubic meters of gas to Poland from Norway in 2023 and approximately 7.7 billion in 2024.
The opening of the Baltic Pipe almost coincided with problems on the three strings of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 offshore gas pipelines. The operator company Nord Stream AG announced unprecedented damage, as well as the fact that now it is not possible to estimate the timing of restoration work. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov called the situation unprecedented and requiring immediate investigation.
