Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the 26 regional heads elected this year, told them that they showed a decent result in the elections.

“You all showed a worthy and convincing result. In regions where leaders are determined through direct voting, they confidently won in the first round. Or received broad support in regional legislative assemblies,” said the head of state (quoted from “RIA News”).

The elections of regional heads took place over three days and ended on September 10. All current governors from United Russia (ER) and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation successfully re-elected for a new term. Also celebrating the victory are the acting leaders appointed by the president this spring.

In a number of regions it was possible to vote through the remote electronic voting system (DEG). The past election campaign showed that the DEG, as a rule, gives United Russia an advantage on the lists, but plays against its candidates personally. Thus, in the elections to legislative assemblies and city dumas, the electronic result of the party in power exceeded the “paper” result by 10–17 percentage points (pp), but in the gubernatorial elections, the majority of United Russia nominees received the best percentage in ordinary polling stations, Kommersant calculated.
