Azerbaijan does not want a war with Armenia, but it needs firm guarantees that “attempts at revanchism” will not arise in Yerevan. This was stated by the President of the Republic Ilham Aliyev, transmits Azertaj agency.

“We would like there to be no war between the two countries at all, so that there are guarantees in this regard,” he said.

Speaking about possible attempts to take revenge for Karabakh, Aliyev noted that Baku knows “what is happening in Armenia,” and also pointed to the large number of Armenian “advisers” in European capitals. Aliyev also accused the Armenian leadership of failure to comply with the agreements of November 2020, according to which Yerevan must ensure communication between Azerbaijan and its exclave, the Nakhchivan region.

The terms of the peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan were agreed upon during a trilateral meeting with the participation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Aliyev and President of the European Council Charles Michel. In particular, we are talking about recognizing the territorial integrity of Armenia (29.8 sq. km) and Azerbaijan (86.6 sq. km).

On November 24, Pashinyan said that he was not sure of the desire of the Azerbaijani side to conclude a peace treaty based on the three principles proposed by Yerevan. Despite the existing agreements, Yerevan and Baku speak different diplomatic languages and often do not understand each other, Prime Minister Pashinyan said at the opening ceremony of the autumn session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan on November 18.

On September 19, Azerbaijan began military operations on the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh to “restore the constitutional order.” The next day, Karabakh authorities announced the conclusion of agreements on a complete ceasefire. Later, the president of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree ending its existence on January 1, 2024 and dissolving all government institutions and organizations.
