Azerbaijan intends to take practical steps next year to export electricity to Serbia. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev following a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Alexander Vučić.
“Azerbaijan’s natural resources are already being exported to various destinations, including the European continent, including Serbia’s neighboring countries. I am sure that starting next year, practical steps will be taken to export Azerbaijani electricity to Serbia,” leads his words to the Azertaj agency.
Aliyev explained that an agreement on the supply of Azerbaijani electricity to Europe was signed last weekend. The cable will be laid along the bottom of the Black Sea and will confirm the status of a reliable supplier for Azerbaijan. According to him, cooperation between the two countries is also possible in the field of gas supplies.
As noted Earlier, Reuters, an agreement on the construction of an electric cable running along the bottom of the Black Sea was signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary. It will supply energy generated by Azerbaijan’s planned wind farms in the Caspian Sea. The length of the cable will be 1,100 km, and the power will be 1,000 MW. The European Commission has allocated 2.3 billion euros to support this project.
Last week, Bloomberg found that Serbia was exploring the possibility extensions gas links with neighboring countries in order to reduce dependence on supplies from Russia and create a regional transit hub. Now the republic is building an interconnector with Bulgaria worth almost $100 million, which will provide imports from Central Asia and LNG terminals in the Mediterranean. According to Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic, Serbia also plans to connect to North Macedonia and Moldova.
