Alexander Gliskov, head of the LDPR faction in the legislative assembly, was detained in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. He is suspected of receiving a particularly large bribe several years ago. In the region, the suspect was considered a popular and independent politician.

The leader of the LDPR faction in the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Alexander Gliskov, was detained in Krasnoyarsk on the morning of November 1. In a video distributed on Telegram-channels, the politician at about 10:30 (6:30 Moscow time), accompanied by several people in civilian clothes, enters an apartment in a multi-storey building, and after about two hours the company leaves it. As told “Kommersant-Siberia” one of the leaders of the regional branch of the party, deputy of the Krasnoyarsk City Council Semyon Sendersky, in the first half of the day a search began in the office of Alexander Gliskov in the regional parliament.

At the end of the day, the Eastern Interregional Investigation Department for Transport of the TFR reported on the initiation of a criminal case against a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory for receiving a bribe on an especially large scale (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). However, the name of the deputy was not mentioned. The events described in the case occurred from December 2016 to May 2017. According to the investigation, the suspect received a bribe from the head of a state-owned enterprise in Krasnoyarsk for “maintaining his position, subsequent patronage in his career and creating favorable conditions for the company’s activities.” The case notes that the deputy threatened the briber with dismissal.

The size of the bribe involved in the case is not disclosed by the security forces. According to Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, it exceeds 1 million rubles, and the accused faces from 8 to 15 years in prison.

As the press service of the Legislative Assembly reported, law enforcement agencies informed the regional parliament about the detention of the deputy.

Evenkia native Alexander Gliskov is one of the most famous Krasnoyarsk politicians. A lawyer by training, he was the managing partner of a law office from 2006 to 2013. In 2008, he was first elected as a deputy of the Krasnoyarsk City Council on the LDPR list, and five years later again, but in a single-mandate district. In the municipal parliament in 2013–2016, Mr. Gliskov served as vice speaker.

Then the politician was twice elected to the regional legislative assembly (the first time in September 2016), where he headed the party faction. It includes four deputies, but one of them, Deputy Speaker Sergei Natarov, has been working for almost two years is in custody. In December 2021, he was detained during investigations into large-scale thefts during northern deliveries to the city of Igarka. This criminal case has been sent to court.

In September 2023, 50-year-old Alexander Gliskov ran for office to governors. Then he scored 11.23% of the votes, losing only to United Russia member Mikhail Kotyukov, who was elected governor. According to the declaration (.pdf), published on the website of the Legislative Assembly, in 2021 Mr. Gliskov earned more than 3.6 million rubles. The deputy owns half of the land plot with an area of 34 square meters. m and half a garage with an area of 25.8 sq. m. There is a dash in the information column about his wife’s income; according to the reports, the Gliskov spouses do not have their own home or car. The family uses an apartment of 94 sq. m. m.

“We do not know the reasons for the detention, but we are confident in the correctness and decency of Alexander Alexandrovich and hope that justice will be fair,” a regional party member responded to the incident Telegram– channel “Gliskov and team”. Assistant to Alexander Gliskov, deputy of the Krasnoyarsk City Council Roman Krastelev expressed confidencethat “everything will be fine.” The LDPR press service did not respond to Kommersant-Sibir’s request.

“Of course, the case against the most prominent opposition politician in the region cannot but be political. Gliskov is a significant figure in the regional political space,” noted political consultant Alexey Aksyutenko.

In his opinion, if the case comes to court, then “there will be no opposition left in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.” According to the head of the communications agency Sibmedia Agency Vasily Damov, the fate of the regional branch of the LDPR, although not immediately, will be “sad.” “There are a lot of potentially good politicians there, but none of them, alas, are leaders, and a party without a bright leader is a story without a future,” he explained.
